Prompts

There are many different ways in which software systems prompt people to update or install software. Some software such as Firefox, will bring up a pop up, notifying you that there is a new version of the software, and you can choose to get it or not. Other pieces of software which do this include: iTunes, Minecraft, or Java. This is the most common way of doing this as it is direct, easy, and can be ignored for a while. This is important as if a piece of software is vital, the updating can happen as soon as you see it. If the software is not vital, the message can be ignored until necessary.

It is different for new software being installed, as this is harder to prompt. There are always situations when you don't know how to do something, and you Google what to download. But there are some ways that a computer can prompt a user to download new software, such as when you are downloading a piece of software in the installation wizard, there will be "do you want to download _____", this is slightly underhanded as most people wont realise they are doing it, and could download malware or spyware.
